Aperol Spritz

The Aperol spritz is an acquired taste…but now that I’ve acquired it, nothing else will satiate my lust for it. The first two times I tried it, I hated it. It was bitter and I didn’t find it very refreshing. Then, after my (warning: incoming pretentious sentence alert) most recent trip to Italy, during which my Italian friend Fabrizio essentially “forced” me to get one every afternoon, they are now a standard on hot summer days in our house.

Find the official Aperol Spritz recipe here.

Single Aperol Spritz

Yield 1 Drink

3 oz prosecco

2 oz Aperol

1 oz club soda

Fill a large balloon wine glass with crushed ice. Pour all three ingredients over the ice, stir. Garnish with a slice of orange. Pretend to be in Italy. Bada bing, bada boom, you got an Aperol Spritz.

Pitcher of Aperol Spritz

Yield 4-6 Drinks

3 cups prosecco

2 cups Aperol

1 cup club soda

Fill a large pitcher with crushed ice. Pour all three ingredients over the ice, stir. Pour out into 4-6 balloon glasses, depending on the size of the glasses. Garnish with orange slices. Invite friends over (or not). Pretend to be in Italy.

Notes

For making single drinks, I love this Anchor Hocking measuring glass. It has oz listed on the side, so it’s easy to measure all three ingredients.
